Posted on 10/23/2024

Tuesday, Nov. 5 is General Election Day. Are you prepared? To vote in Minnesota, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on Election Day, a resident of Minnesota for 20 days, not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction and not under a court order that revokes your right to vote.

VOTER REGISTRATION
Although the deadline to pre-register has passed, eligible voters may also register or update their registration when voting, whether early/absentee or on Election Day. Voters will need to provide proof of residence to register.

ELECTION DAY POLLING LOCATIONS
Polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 5, and if voting on Election Day, you must vote at your assigned polling location. New Hope has eight voting precincts. If you are unsure of your polling location, visit mnvotes.org or call the New Hope Elections Line at 763.531.5160. Please note that voters cannot return absentee ballots to polling locations on Election Day.

VOTING EARLY/ABSENTEE
Minnesota allows all eligible voters to vote early by mail or in person. Voters may apply for an absentee ballot online and complete the ballot process entirely by mail. Once the completed ballot is returned, voters can even track the status of their absentee ballot at mnvotes.org. Be sure to allow sufficient time to complete the process by mail. Absentee ballots must be received by Nov. 5.

Those who prefer to vote early in person may do so through Nov. 4. New Hope voters can vote early in person at New Hope City Hall during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This year, City Hall will offer additional extended hours for early voting on the following dates:

  • Saturday, Oct. 26, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 29, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 3, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Monday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHAT’S ON MY BALLOT?
The City of New Hope has the city offices of mayor and two at-large City Council seats on the ballot. In addition, there are federal, state, county, judicial and school district offices. There is also a constitutional amendment question and a school district question.
