Election Day

Election Day is on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even-numbered years. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Primary Election Day

A primary election for state offices is held on the first Tuesday, after the second Monday of August.

Time Off to Vote

In a state or federal election, state statute gives eligible voters the right to arrange for time away from work to vote on Election Day without penalty or loss of salary or wages.

Assistance for Persons with Disabilities

Each polling place has an accessible booth for persons with disabilities. This accessible booth is equipped with new AutoMARK ballot marking machines that make it possible for voters with disabilities to mark their ballots independently and privately. For more information, please read about Voter Assistance.

Voters unable to enter a polling place may register and vote, with the assistance of two election judges of different political parties, without leaving their vehicle. Absentee balloting is also available prior to Election Day.

Election Results

Election results are available on election evening by visiting the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website or Hennepin County’s website.
