Winning Snowplow Names Are Out of This World

The City of New Hope is announcing the winters of its Name-a-Snowplow Contest. The City received more than 50 entries for consideration, which were narrowed to 15 for public voting. The community cast nearly 200 votes for their favorite name. The winning names, Han Snowlo and Snowbe-Gon Kenobi will adorn the City's newest snowplows, nods to characters in the "Star Wars" movie series. The City unveiled the winning names on its social media on May 4, a date recognized as "Star Wars" Day.

"The submissions received highlighted the creativity of the New Hope community with nods to "Star Wars", the mayor, and even New Hope native, actor Steve Zahn," said New Hope Communications Coordinator Beth Kramer.

The City announced the contest earlier this spring. The residents who submitted the winning names will be recognized at a City Council meeting and have a photo opportunity with the named snowplow.

New Hope's fleet of five snowplows is responsible for clearing more than 65 miles of city roadway. Each plow has a dedicated route. The City has not announced which areas the named plows will cover next winter.
