May 3–9 is Shingle Creek Watershed Cleanup Week
Posted on 05/01/2026
The New Hope City Council has proclaimed May 3–9, 2026, as Shingle Creek Watershed Cleanup Week, reaffirming the City’s commitment to protecting local water resources and encouraging community participation in keeping waterways clean.
The proclamation, adopted at the April 13 City Council meeting, highlights the importance of maintaining clean lakes, streams, wetlands and stormwater systems. Litter and debris can be washed into waterways, contributing to pollution and blocking storm drains. Cleanup efforts help reduce these impacts and support a healthier environment for the community.
As part of the week, residents are invited to participate in a community cleanup event on Wednesday, May 6 at 5 p.m. at Meadow Lake Park. The event will bring together volunteers, elected officials and city staff to remove litter, improve landscaping and help manage invasive species in the park.
New Hope has participated in the annual Shingle Creek Watershed cleanup effort since 2008. Past projects have included debris removal along Bass Creek, shoreline cleanup, tree and shrub plantings and general litter removal throughout public spaces.
In recognition of Arbor Day, this year’s event will also include the planting of a tree at Meadow Lake Park.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear gloves and boots and meet at the park at the scheduled time. Residents who are unable to attend the organized event are still encouraged to participate by picking up litter in their neighborhoods, parks and along local waterways throughout the week.
