36th Avenue Bridge Project and Closures

36th Avenue Bridge Project and Closures
Posted on 06/03/2024
MnDOT will be closing, demolishing and rebuilding the 36th Avenue bridge over Highway 169 on the boundary of New Hope and Plymouth. The project is necessary due to a mandated replacement because of the bridge's current condition. Crews will raise the height of the new bridge to provide a safer standard clearance over Highway 169. This will increase safety significantly by reducing vehicle strikes on the bridge. The existing standalone pedestrian bridge that was constructed in 2008 already meets current clearance standards and will remain open during construction.

36th Avenue Bridge Closure Begins June 6
Starting Thursday, June 6, the 36th Avenue bridge will fully close for the duration of the project and will not reopen until October. Throughout this closure, there will be no access to Highway 169 from 36th Avenue.

Highway 169 Weekend Closure: June 7-10
Highway 169 will be closed in both directions between I-94 and I-394 from 10 p.m. on Friday June 7 until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 10. This closure will allow crews to safely demolish and remove the bridge.

Motorists can follow the northbound detour by taking I-394 to I-494 to I-94. The southbound detour will follow I-94 to I-494 to I-394.

Please plan for extra travel time to reach your destination during the closure.

Note: All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.
