Changes to absentee voting As a result of recent Minnesota election law changes, the City will implement 18 days of in-person early voting beginning with the 2026 election cycle. Residents will still be able to: Vote early in person during the City’s 18-day early voting period; Request and return absentee ballots by mail; and Vote in person on Election Day. You may vote early at New Hope City Hall, 4401 Xylon Ave N, from:  July 24 to Aug. 10, 2026, for the primary election (closed on July 4) Oct. 16 to Nov. 2, 2026, for the general election Hennepin County will continue offering absentee voting services during the full 46-day period before the election. Residents who wish to vote earlier than the City’s 18-day early voting period may continue to vote in person at the Hennepin County Elections Office beginning 46 days before Election Day or vote by mail by requesting an absentee ballot.

Voter Information
The City of New Hope holds local elections in even-numbered years, which means 2026 is an election year. New Hope voters will have the opportunity to elect members to the City Council and participate in county, state and federal elections at the same time.

City Council terms expire in even-numbered years. By aligning local elections with county, state and federal races, residents can cast their vote for all offices at once. This approach makes voting more convenient and efficient, boosts voter turnout and reduces election-related expenses for the City.

2026 Election Dates
State Primary Election: Aug. 11

•  June 26 - Aug. 10: Vote absentee by mail. 
• July 21: This is the deadline to pre-register to vote for the primary. Pre- registering can save time on Election Day.
• July 24 – Aug. 10: Early Voting at New Hope City Hall.
• Aug. 11: Primary Election Day. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

General Election: Nov. 3

• Sept. 18 – Nov. 2: Vote absentee by mail.
• Oct. 13: Pre-register to vote in advance by Oct. 13 to save time on Election Day.
• Oct. 16 – Nov. 2: Early Voting at New Hope City Hall.
• Nov. 3: General Election Day. Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Time Off to Vote
State statute gives eligible voters the right to be absent from work for the time necessary to vote on Election Day and before Election Day when in-person voting is permitted without penalty or loss of salary or wages.
