Utility bills for rental properties in New Hope remain in the property owner’s name and cannot be transferred to tenants.
Duplicate Utility Bills
Property owners may request a duplicate copy of the monthly utility bill be sent to a tenant. A written request is required, and there is a $1 monthly fee for this service.
Only one billing format can be active at a time. If an owner enrolls in paperless billing, it will replace the mailed paper bill and any duplicate copies.
To request a duplicate bill, complete the Duplicate Bill Request form and submit it to the Utility Billing Department by email, fax, mail or drop-off.
Property owners are responsible for communicating with tenants about payment responsibilities.
Tenant Move-Out and Unpaid Bills
The City does not conduct final meter readings when a tenant moves out. Final readings are only completed when a property is sold.
Property owners are responsible for collecting any unpaid utility bills from tenants.
The City does not shut off water service for unpaid utility bills. Delinquent balances are certified to the property owner’s taxes once per year. The process begins in June, and unpaid amounts are added to property taxes on Dec. 1.
Account Responsibility
Property owners are responsible for keeping account information up to date, including mailing address and name changes.
