Moving In or Transferring Service

If you are moving into a property or transferring ownership, utility accounts with the City of New Hope must remain in the property owner’s name. Accounts cannot be transferred to renters or tenants, and tenants are not able to register for an online utility account.

Renters and Tenants
Renters can still make one-time payments using the account number and customer number. Payments can be made online, by phone, by mail or in person.

For more information, visit the Rental Property Utility Bills page. Renters should also check with their landlord or property manager to understand responsibility for other utilities.

Buying or Selling a Property
If you are buying or selling a property, contact Utility Billing at 763.592.6760 or
[email protected] at least five business days before closing.

To complete the transfer, provide the service address, the new and previous owner’s names, a phone number for the current owner, a forwarding address for the final bill, the closing date and the title company’s name and phone number. All information is required to process the transfer.

Utility bills are the responsibility of the property owner. When ownership changes, any unpaid balance becomes the responsibility of the new owner. Before purchasing a home, confirm that all past-due utility bills have been paid or that enough funds are set aside in escrow to cover the final bill.

If you have recently purchased a property and have not received a utility bill, contact the Utility Billing Department as soon as possible.
