Virtual Memorial Day Programs

Although many in-person Memorial Day events are canceled this year, there are a number of virtual ways to pay tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in service to our country.

National Memorial Day Concert
The National Memorial Day Concert will be held virtually this year and features musical performances, documentary footage, and readings to honor those who have served our country. It will air on PBS at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 and also streamed on PBS.org, YouTube and Facebook.

Chester Bird Post 523 American Legion and West Metro VFW Post 7051 Rifle Squad
Chester Bird Post 523 will not host a public Memorial Day observance this year, but will be joined by the West Metro VFW Post 7051 Rifle Squad to perform the Three Rifle Volley with Taps at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 25 at Golden Valley Public Cemetery. Although this event is closed to the public, it is asked that the public stop for a moment of reflection at that time to reflect upon the sacrifice so many have bravely made.

Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs Virtual Program
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) will hold a virtual Memorial Day program this year in place of live events at the three state veterans cemeteries.

MDVA has partnered with Twin Cities PBS-TPT to create a 30-minute Memorial Day program entitled, “Always Remember: A Minnesota Tribute to Veterans We’ve Lost.” It will be broadcast across the state on TPT’s Minnesota Channel at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 25.

The program will include remarks from Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Commissioner Herke, personal stories about those we have lost and honor on Memorial Day, music and a rile salute traditionally included in a live event.
