The New Hope Police Department is the recipient of a $7,500 grant from AKC Reunite. Formally accepted by New Hope City Council at its Oct. 25 meeting, the funds will be used toward the purchase of the department’s second K-9.

AKC Reunite, established by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as an affiliate organization, is the nation’s largest non-profit pet microchip and recovery service. Through its Canine Support and Relief Fund, AKC Reunite works with AKC Clubs to donate police dogs to departments across the country.

The New Hope Police Department currently has one K-9, Drago, who works alongside Officer Miguel Robles. The department’s former second K-9, Dex, was retired when his handler left the department. The newest K-9 will be purchased in spring of 2022 and assigned to Officer Matt Collier.
