National Missing and Exploited Children Day

The problem of missing and exploited children is complex and multifaceted. To raise awareness of the issue, New Hope City Council has proclaimed today, May 25, as National Missing and Exploited Children Day.

Unfortunately the problem is all too real in the U.S. as 424,066 reports of missing children were made to law enforcement nationwide in 2018 according to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and the FBI.

The NCMEC works with families, victims, private industry, law enforcement, and the public to assist with preventing child abductions, recovering missing children, and providing services to deter and combat child sexual exploitation.

This year, for the 25th anniversary of the Soul Asylum song "Runaway Train", which the original music video featured images of missing children and helped close 21 cases, NCMEC reimagined the song with new artists and a dynamic music video that updates itself with missing children from the NCMEC database based on a user's location. That means more missing children in front of more people in more relevant places.
