Lawn Maintenance Reminders

Lawn Maintenance Reminders

The city receives many complaints throughout the summer concerning long grass and weeds in neighborhood yards. Weeds, including tall grass that exceeds eight inches in height, must be cut, destroyed or otherwise eradicated by the owner of the property. Perennial native prairie vegetation, including grasses and/or wildflowers as identified and approved by the city forester, is excluded from this rule on a case-by-case basis.

If the property receives notice, the grass must be cut within seven days of the date on the compliance order. Failure to correct the violation, or achieve compliance with this ordinance, will result in the city or its contractor entering the property and abating the nuisance at your cost.

Concerns about neighborhood yards can be reported via “Report an Issue” on the city website at newhopemn.gov or by calling New Hope Public Works at 763.592.6777.
