Minnesota is known for its frigid winters but the state also experiences hot, humid summers. As a result, residents see seasonal spikes in their utility bills and may be looking for solutions to save energy and improve comfort.

To help homeowners increase energy savings and comfort throughout the year, Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy offer Home Energy Squad. During a two-hour visit a crew of two energy experts will conduct an assessment to reveal opportunities for energy savings and the install energy saving products such as LED bulbs, door weather-stripping, water savers and a programmable thermostat, at no extra cost. There is also the option of a no-cost virtual consultation.

As an incentive the City of New Hope will buy down the cost of the following in-person visit types for residents:

  • Energy Saver Visit: install energy-saving materials such as LED bulbs, door and attic hatch weather-stripping, programmable thermostat and efficient water fixtures. Normally $70 but the city pays half the cost, which means residents only pay $35.
  • Energy Planner Visit: includes the installed items listed above plus a comprehensive energy audit with a blower-door test to measure for air leaks, insulation inspection, safety check on heating system & water heater, recommendations for next steps. Normally $100 but the city pays half the cost, which means residents only pay $50.
