Contract Awarded for Ice Arena Roof Replacement

Roof improvements are coming to New Hope Ice Arena. New Hope City Council awarded the construction contract for the project to Jackson & Associates at its Feb. 22 meeting. The estimated project cost is $194,000 and includes replacing the roof over the south part of the building and the arena's entrance.

The south part of the building, added in 1996, contains a second sheet of ice, locker rooms and meeting rooms. Although city staff has worked to defer replacement over the past several years by repairing and patching the roof, the roof has reached the end of its useful life.

The arena's existing EDPM roofing system will be replaced with an adhered single-ply Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO) roofing membrane system and damaged insulation replaced. Damaged exterior insulation finish system (EIFS) walls along the south and north ends and over the arena's front entrance will be cleaned and repaired. The rolled roofing will be replaced with a single-ply membrane roofing system and a rainwater diverter and roof edge facia added to reroute rainwater at the arena's entrance.

New Hope City Council approved the plans and specifications for the project and authorized bidding at the Jan. 11 city council meeting. A total of seven bids were received and reviewed for the project.

Construction on the New Hope Ice Arena roof will begin this spring and be substantially completed this summer.
